October is national Breast Cancer Awareness month, and we are here to talk prevention!
It’s true – according to the Susan G. Komen foundation, women who exercise regularly can lower their breast cancer risk by 10-20% than those who are inactive. Exercise can help keep your body at a healthy weight, may lower estrogen levels and improves your immune system to help prevent abnormal cancer cell growth. Some studies also show that regular weekly exercise can reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence in breast cancer survivors. Regular L-T-B will not only give you the physical results you are looking for, it can also reduce your breast cancer risk!
The American Cancer Society recommends 150 minutes of physical activity per week to reduce cancer risk – that’s just 3 Pure Barre classes per week! Pure Barre gives you the benefit of increasing your heart rate and strengthening your muscles and bones all in one class. The more classes you take, the larger benefit to your health. If you love the challenge of Pure Barre, and also appreciate the flow of class – building up to or maintaining at least 3 classes per week can help improve your health!
We recommend scheduling your 3+ Pure barre classes into your weekly planner just like you would schedule a doctor appointment. If you have to cancel, be sure to reschedule with yourself at a more convenient time in that same week. The benefits will pay off – we promise!
Last but not least, we recommend following Susan G. Komen’s self-awareness messages including:
- Know your breast cancer risk
- Get screened
- Know what is normal for you and see a health care provider if you notice any changes.
- Make healthy lifestyle choices (i.e. tuck it out)
