“My name is Erin and I am a senior at UMass Amherst majoring in hospitality and tourism management. My older sister, Megan, loves Pure Barre and saw that a studio was opening up close to where I go to school, and encouraged me to give it a shot.

I have never loved going to the gym and much prefer outdoor exercise such as rollerblading, ice skating and going on long walks with my friends. However, I had been looking for a fun way to strength train and get toned. I admit that my first class was intimidating! It moved quickly and I was not confident in my form. The friendly teachers and fit women of all ages in the class inspired me to come back. The “breaking down the barre” class I attended gave me all of the instruction I needed on how to correctly position myself in order to get the most out of each move. I have now completed 25 classes and I gain more confidence with each class I attend! It feels incredible to leave a class knowing that I rocked it and gave it my all through the final ten. I have an unlimited monthly contract at Pure Barre Northampton and hope to lift, tone and burn my way to graduation this May where I plan on rocking a strapless dress!

My favorite part of Pure Barre is the ab work with the mat against the wall. At first, I was not feeling the exercises in my abs and was using my hip flexors to lift my legs. By really listening to what the teachers were saying and my learnings from “breaking down the barre,” I totally feel the burn in the deepest layer of my abs! I have noticed my belly becoming much flatter and am excited to see even more results. I also really love the 55 minutes to myself in the studio. I am relaxed and focused on myself and my body. At the same time, I am inspired by the beautiful strong women who surround me and it motivates me to work even harder.

I am most excited about the results I see in my arms and upper body. My shoulders are more defined and look stronger. My biceps and triceps are becoming toned and defined and my collarbone is more defined on my chest. In addition, my thighs and seat feel strong and lean. I am excited to continue sculpting my abs.

I would 100% tell someone just considering Pure Barre to go for it! I’m so happy I made this commitment. As a student with a tight budget, I was motivated to stick to my financial commitment to Pure Barre and tried to go to class 3-4x a week that first month. Now I go 5 times a week and get FOMO (fear of missing out) if I don’t! My advice to a newbie would also be to stick with it. I was a little nervous to go back after my first class, but I am so happy that I did and with each class I feel more accomplished and confident.”
