Behind the Barre: Meet Nicholette

Nicholette’s husband already considered Pure Barre her “second job” before she even decided to open her first studio. Read more about her journey from client to owner of two studios below!

Pure Barre: When did you first fall in love with Pure Barre?

Nicholette: When I started Pure Barre I bought a Groupon after my best friend suggested I try it. I did 5 classes for $69 and went once a week for a little over a month. After that ended, I purchased the new client special. It wasn’t until I started taking class 3 to 5 times a week that I really noticed a change in my classes and body. I was able to recover faster, and learn the movements quicker. That month is when I fell in love with pure barre. I encourage clients to start with the 30 day unlimited New Client Special, because I truly believe that to love Pure Barre you have to dive into it headfirst, and I want each of my clients to love it. Pure Barre has changed my life, body, confidence and even my career path.

Pure Barre: What inspired you to open your own studio?

Nicholette: My husband. He always believed that I could run my own business. I was unsure about leaving the safety of my previous job (complete with benefits and a 401k),  but he felt that together we would be a great team and could achieve dreams bigger than we could individually working for large organizations. The Pure Barre CEO and VP of Franchise development were holding an information session about opening a studio locally, and I cautiously asked my husband what he thought. To my surprise, he sounded really excited and met me to hear more about this company and workout that had taken over my life (at this point he had started calling Pure Barre my “2nd job”). After the meeting, I was even more sure of what a smart, efficient and successful business model Pure Barre was. Several more conversations, interviews and careful deliberation led us to deciding to open our first studio Pure Barre Vienna and we are very excited to open our second in Baltimore-Harborside!

Pure Barre: Tell us about your professional background.

Nicholette: My background is in Marketing. I completed undergrad in 2009 at Salisbury University in MD with a B.S. in Business Administration and went on to get my MBA from Towson University/University of Baltimore in 2012. I worked as a Marketing Manager prior to Pure Barre. Leaving my corporate job to open Pure Barre Vienna was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made, but I wouldn’t trade my studios now for anything!

Pure Barre: What advice would you offer to someone considering opening their own Pure Barre studio?

Nicholette: Give it your whole heart, be there as much as you can, and empower your team to share in your goals. Your team is everything – choose them wisely, take good care of them and love them hard. Lastly control what you can; I can’t MAKE someone love Pure Barre, but I can control that the client is greeted by a big smile, walks into a clean studio and is taught a high quality class.

Behind the Barre: Meet Nicholette

Learn more about Nicholette and her passion for the Baltimore – Harborside community!

Pure Barre: What community activities are you involved in?

Nicholette: One initiative that I am really proud of – is the ‘charity barre crawl’ that we are currently rolling out in Baltimore. During our studio’s ramp up – we hosted 13 outdoor classes across Baltimore with donation-only classes to benefit the One Love Foundation (www.joinonelove.org). We have had over 300 people participate and raised over $1,200 for the organization!

Pure Barre: Do you have kids or pets?

Nicholette: My husband’s name is Mike – he is my co-owner and plays a big role in the operations of our studio(s). He is a CPA and I joke that he is my personal CFO. He helps reign me in when my “creative” gets the best of me! I also have a 5 month old French bulldog – his name is Obi and he spends 6 – 12 hours a day at Pure Barre Vienna or Pure Barre Baltimore with me! If he could talk – I am pretty sure he would teach a killer Pure Barre class 😉

Congratulations to Nicholette on her second studio now open! Find out more about the studio’s new client special by visiting the Pure Barre Baltimore-Harborside studio page here.
