Digestive upset is one of the most common reasons people cite for missing a workout. With holiday parties all month, it’s likely that issue will pop up a time or two. Sooth your tummy with this simple, homemade tea. Ginger and fennel reduce gas and relax the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, while mint encourages the production of bile, which helps digest fats.
- 2 thin slices of fresh orange
- 2 thin slices of fresh ginger
- 2 tablespoons of fresh mint leaves
- ½ teaspoon fennel seed
- A few whole black peppercorns
- Honey (optional)
Place the orange, ginger, and mint in a tea or coffee cup. Using a muddler, lightly mash to release their essence. Crush fennel and black peppercorns using a mortar and pestle (or a meat mallet or heavy pan and a zip top bag if you don’t have one). Place the fennel and black peppercorns in a tea bag or tea ball and place in the cup. Add hot water and let sit two minutes before drinking. Sweeten with a little honey if desired.
