This Pure Barre Transformation & Inspiration story features one of our very own owners and her mother. Read below (as told by Lacey) to find out more about how Pure Barre helped transform Erin (a.k.a. mom) and maybe help inspire your journey to health and happiness.
Growing up, we were a ‘meat and potatoes’ kind of family, strong Irish roots and oh yeah, there was probably some sort of bread on the table as well. My brother, sister and I were always active; straight from school to dance, drama, beach or some activity we were involved in. We were a particularly ‘picky’ family, the only vegetable I ate was corn, maybe a green bean or two. Convenience usually trumped as we were always on the go, I’ve had a happy meal in my life and there’s no shame. My parents divorced while I was young and my mother worked two jobs at times to allow my siblings and I to do the things we loved.

Welcome to the story, Erin, AKA super mom! Never really thinking of her weight or taking time to focus on her personal health because she was so busy, it never seemed to be an issue. Her metabolism was kicking and she slipped into her size 6 jeans and wore a bikini with sass at the beach.
Incoming…change! During my baby sister’s senior year of high school, my mother met my lovely stepfather and they wed. Shortly thereafter, my stepfather was relocated to Houston, Texas for business.
My mother’s life = family. My mother’s family = Florida.
Insert sadness topped with a big pile of empty nester’s syndrome, retirement and oh, what’s that? Menopause. (Well hello there, fancy meeting everyone at once, NOT! Triple Whammy!)
Quickly becoming a couch potato in her new, unfamiliar surroundings, the pounds quickly added on.
As I became fully divulged into the opening of Pure Barre Jacksonville Beach, I admit I wasn’t able to visit family, let alone take notice of my mother becoming a little lonely and unhealthy.
However, that quickly changed when I made a recent visit to Houston with my husband in February. Always trying to persuade my mom to take a Pure Barre class in Houston she just wasn’t in the right mindset, “Maybe next month,” or, “Maybe if I lose a few pounds, I’ll feel more comfortable,” she’d say. We’ve all been there, providing excuses to make ourselves feel more comfortable. Well it was time I got to put my foot down! The child for once, becomes the parent!
Mom agreed it was time to change and realized it was more than just to lose weight, it was about becoming healthier and happier. It was about creating a new lifestyle!
“Super Mom” Erin with her other daughter, Morgan, now 40lbs lighter from the start of her journey!
Starting by controlling food portions and cutting out diet soda (her coffee supplement). Having more energy she began to walk around the neighborhood, quickly shedding a few pounds. Gaining more confidence! Erin knew this was a change she wanted to embrace and started setting specific goals, ‘X’ amount of miles to walk a day, stretching, doing small exercises during commercial breaks, etc.
Finally coming to Florida for about a month she came to Jacksonville Beach to visit me (yay!) This was my chance to convince her to try her (only) second Pure Barre class ever! Better yet, while hanging out at the studio, she met, Trixie, Debbie and Pat (three of our amazing clients) they convinced her to take a class with them. Even better, an Intensive we offered that weekend. My mom, the small excuse maker, came to class and crushed the Intensive! Of course there were a few modifications but she pushed through and I saw that strong woman I’ve always known.
Taking another class while visiting she was ready to sign up for more classes. On her way back to Houston I received a text saying she purchased the ‘New Client Special- A month of Unlimited classes’ at Pure Barre Houston -Voss Rd. (boom! start off with a bang!)
Since June, Erin has been taking a Pure Barre class every other day (occasionally missing for travel). Yes, she does wish she began sooner! The best part is that I receive constant text updates about how great her class was, or if I have any additional pointers. Or today, a text read ‘hit a traffic jam and too late for class, ughh, going to grab some lunch and wait for the next class’… Can we say determination! :: Proud daughter moment::
In addition Erin power walks the neighborhood about six days a week (on an average of 6+ miles a day) with her husband for company. She is still cooking healthier portions and options. Feeling toned from head to toe she is just shy of losing 35 pounds from beginning her journey in February!!
My Mom is back!
Keep in mind, one small change can create a huge transformation and you never know who you may inspire. Although this is not my transformation, I hope that it has inspired you to begin your journey to find a healthy, happier you. Remember it is not just about a number on the scale or fitting into a size you wore in Middle School. If that’s your motivation allow it to keep you interested but above all, do it for YOURSELF!
Pure Barre isn’t just about the Lift.Tone.Burn (although it does feel good), it’s about the lifestyle. A healthy, happy lifestyle with a side of an amazing community called a Pure Barre family!
Peace, Love & Pure Bare
A huge thanks to my mother for being so vulnerable in allowing me to share her story (love you mom)! To our amazing Pure Barre Jacksonville Beach family and Pure Barre Houston, TX – Voss Road for helping Erin embrace her new lifestyle to make that change she deserved!
