Before we know it, the season will turn, the leaves will change colors and we will be getting out our sweaters (and super cute Pure Barre leg warmers!) once again. With the summer days rapidly starting to wind down, let’s get ahead of the screeching holt the start to a new season brings, by anticipating the change to come! Join me as I hit the “reset button” on my life with these key tips to reboot back into reality with more energy and enthusiasm than ever before.
(Re) Establish Your Boundaries
Whether it’s back to school for you, your kids, or back to a normal work schedule (so long summer Fridays!), we all have some adjusting to do. Pick a day to “flip your switch” and commit to your next “back to…” chapter. We recommend scheduling a day with yourself to know you’re ready to go – no excuses. Maybe it’s the Tuesday after Labor Day, maybe it’s tomorrow. Whatever the time frame is, stick to it and set some ground rules around major points in your life like nutrition, sleep and exercise to refresh your energy and spirit.
Assess your current dining in versus dining out balance. I always feel my best self when I’m controlling what I put into my meals. Work to find that 80 / 20 balance in your diet, sticking to healthy options 80% of the time and splurging 20% of the time. Try to cut out some of the “extras,” such as: artificial sugars, too much coffee or soda and afternoon snack binges to simplify your nutrition. You’ll be surprised at the results – after all, we all know the “little things” go a long way!
Sleep Your Way & Recharge
You know your sleep best – figure out the how much, when, and where that’s perfect for you. Understanding your sleep patterns will help you adjust your schedule to best suite your needs. For me, it’s all about consistency. I keep a close eye on my bedtime and evening meals to make sure I’m setting myself up for success when my alarm goes off at 5AM! I also make sure to schedule time with myself to do nothing. Although it can be tough, finding the one or two days a month to literally have zero commitments on my agenda always helps me recharge.
Make it your new goal this September to do something every day that will make you happier and healthier.
