What is Pure Barre?

Pure Barre is a full-body, yet low-impact workout, that targets hips, thighs, seat, abdominals, and arms so you can burn calories, gain muscle and lose weight. It incorporates a barre, and elements of yoga, ballet, and Pilates. Small isometric movements target certain areas of your body to get them in better shape. Your heart rate will go up and down throughout a Pure Barre workout.

What to expect from a class

Get ready to listen to some energizing music and complete a comprehensive workout. Each class lasts for about an hour. They are open to all levels, and everyone is welcome at Pure Barre. No worries that you are new to the technique. Classes begin with a warm up in the center of the room. Then, exercises with light weights are introduced to work arms, followed by barre work for thighs, seat, and abs. A light cool down routine is done to keep participants injury-free.

How to prepare

First, sign up for a class. Then, make sure you have the proper clothing. Pants, leggings, and capris, as well as a top covering the midriff, are required. Shorts and cell phone use during class are not allowed. A lightweight, breathable tank or tee with leggings is recommended. Sticky socks, which can be purchased online or in-studio, complete the look. They help you stand upright and retain body heat, which is essential. Tie back your hair if it is long. Bring a full water bottle, towel and be ready to work.

On class day, arrive about 10 to 15 minutes early to sign a waiver, store your belongings, get ready and grab your equipment.

How can you incorporate it into your exercise program?

Take two to three days off a week from pounding the pavement. For maximum benefits from Pure Barre, especially for newbies, attending classes three to four times a week is suggested. If you follow this approach, you could easily alternate barre with running.

Changing up your routine will keep things new and exciting. Plus, it helps your body adapt and improve your performance, as well as helps your muscles.

If you are reluctant to try Pure Barre, try a few classes and see if you like it. Even better, take a friend along with you for motivation.

Do not get discouraged if you do not see or feel results right away. It typically takes eight to 10 classes to get them. Also, if your body shakes during the class, do not be alarmed. That just means that muscles are working to fatigue. Do exercises more intensively in areas on which you want to focus.
