Lauren was on her way to law school when she was introduced to Pure Barre, and changed her career path completely. This is Lauren’s second studio and she is excited to bring the Pure Barre technique to her hometown of Chesterfield.
Pure Barre: When did you first fall in love with Pure Barre?
Lauren: I fell in love with Pure Barre during my second class in March 2012 in Watercolor, FL at Pure Barre Santa Rosa Beach – 30A. I left my first class upset that it was so challenging, and I knew I would need to go back the whole week of vacation to master it. By the end of the week, I hadn’t quite mastered it, but my body felt so different, and better, that I knew I couldn’t live without it.
Pure Barre: What inspired you to open your own studio?
Lauren: Seeing the community and culture that Ashley, the owner of the Pure Barre studio in Santa Rosa Beach – 30A, created in her studio. After visiting a few other studios, I realized this was the way Pure Barre was across the board. Pure Barre is a lifestyle and it’s where people go for the happiest hour of their day. I wanted to bring that back to my community to provide that special place for others.
Pure Barre: Tell us about your professional background.
Lauren: I graduated from the University of Missouri’s Journalism School with a degree in Strategic Communications and a minor in Business in 2011. I was on my way to law school, and was taking a year off after undergrad to work and prepare for another few years of academics. That was until I stumbled into Pure Barre that fateful day 🙂
Pure Barre: What advice would you offer to someone considering opening their own Pure Barre studio?
Lauren: Do your research! The fun kind of research where you get to go into many studios and be a client. Experience the technique and culture with equal importance. Being a part of the Pure Barre team means having the passion for the brand. The vision of your studio will drive its success and cannot be falsely created. Talk with current owners about their experiences and get the facts from them. Being an owner is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling, but it is also extremely challenging. The more prepared and educated you can be before even exploring the opportunity, the better!
Pure Barre: What have you learned about yourself in the process of owning your own business and opening your studio?
Lauren: A lot! I have grown up with Pure Barre. I opened my first studio just after my 24th birthday (which is crazy to think about!) so I did quite a bit of maturing and stepping way outside my comfort zone in those first couple years. I’ve learned too many things to name, but one in particular is that I am surrounded and supported by the best network of family and friends imaginable. I have really been shown what a phenomenal group of people I have in my life and I am so very thankful for that.
Pure Barre: What is your favorite breakfast/lunch spot in Chesterfield?
Lauren: The Egg & I which is in the same shopping center as Pure Barre Chesterfield! Too many yummy items to choose from…depends on my mood that day 🙂
Pure Barre: What is the best kept secret in Chesterfield?
Lauren: The many parks and trails in the area! Even though we’re a suburb of a major city, there’s plenty of places to stay active and enjoy the outdoors!
Pure Barre: What community activities are you involved in?
Lauren: Right now I am splitting my time between Pure Barre Columbia and Pure Barre Chesterfield and starting to get more involved in the Chesterfield community after being away for the past 8 years. I have joined the Chamber of Commerce and look forward to much more involvement in the future!
Pure Barre: Do you have kids or pets? Tell us all about them!
Lauren: George is our 2 year old Giant Schnauzer who acts like a 2 month old puppy! He is 90lbs and thinks he is a lap dog. We stay very active with him and couldn’t love him more!
Pure Barre: Complete this phrase. On a typical Saturday, you can find me…
Lauren: In the studio bright and early – Saturday morning classes are my favorite because it’s a hybrid of all the clients who come at different times during the week, all together in one class! After classes are finished for the day, there’s usually some sort of combination of home cleaning/grocery shopping/errand running that takes place. The afternoons are always reserved for spending time with Stephen and George. You might find us on a trail running or hiking, at the dog park, on the couch relaxing (George nestled between us)! Saturday nights usually involve friends or live music – two of our favorite things!
Pure Barre: Tell us something interesting that your new Pure Barre clients might not know about you.
Lauren: I am so grateful for the opportunity to bring Pure Barre to my hometown of Chesterfield. I cannot wait to reconnect with many names and faces I grew up with as well as meet so many other incredible people of the community. It’s going to be special to see something I love so much impact the place that is dearest to my heart!
